Michael was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and grew up on Long Island. Michael & Gloria met at Yale and were married shortly after they graduated. They moved to Cambridge in 1982, when Gloria entered the PhD program in Archaeology at Harvard.

They moved to Needham in 1991. Michael was elected to Town Meeting in 1995, beginning 30+ years of civic involvement.

In 2002, Gloria left her position as Collections Manager at the Harvard Peabody Museum to become the Executive Director of the Needham Historical Society (now the Needham History Center and Museum). Gloria has overseen significant growth in membership and participation and implemented many new programs, including several collaborative programs with the Needham Public Schools. She is also a member of the Needham Historical Commission

Our daughter Madeleine graduated from Needham High School in 2010.  She and is now the head desserts chef for  Japonaise Bakery in Brookline.  While Japonaise was undergoing renovations during the pandemic, she stepped in as a substitute food service worker for the Needham Public Schools.

Our son Adam graduated from Needham High School in 2016. His musical education began with the trombone in 4th grade band. His passion for music was nurtured by an outstanding series of music teachers in the Needham Public Schools. His journey included the middle school jazz band, high school jazz band and the xymphonic band. He earned a Bachelors of Music from Berklee College of Music in May 2020 with a major in  Contemporary Music and Production.  He recently moved to Nashville where he composes, produces and performs as Gōst Pepper
